SUMMARY:Community Wealth Building: From Essentials to Deep Practice Course
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER NOW\nCommunity Wealth Building (CWB) is a growing movement across Scotland and internationally\, shaping economies and changing the practice of economic development\, creating greater resilience\, local dynamism and fairness. With the new Community Wealth Building (Scotland) Act in March 2026\, there is increasing focus on how CWB principles can be fully embedded into policy\, planning and delivery across national and local settings. This practical online Continuing Professional Development course is designed for anyone looking to build their understanding of CWB\, and wishing to practically apply CWB within their own organisations and place. \nAcross two interactive online sessions\, the course will offer all you need. It will introduce the history\, theory and core principles behind Community Wealth Building\, explore the conditions required for successful development\, before exploring how the model can be implemented\, through action planning. There will be ample practice examples and wider case studies from Scotland and beyond. Participants will be equipped to apply CWB approaches within their own organisation\, area or sector\, considering opportunities\, challenges and next steps. \nThe course combines presentations\, discussion and practical exercises\, offering participants the opportunity to learn from examples\, reflect on their own context and develop actionable ideas. \nTopics covered include: \n\nThe origins and evolution of Community Wealth Building\nKey concepts and principles underpinning the CWB approach\nThe Scottish policy and practice context\nKey conditions for success\nCase studies and practical examples\nApplying CWB within your own organisation or area\nAction planning and next steps\n\nThis online CPD course will take place via MSTeams over the following dates (totalling 6 hours CPD): \n\nWednesday 19 August\, 09:30–12:30\nWednesday 26 August\, 09:30–12:30\n\nJoining links will be circulated ahead of the sessions. \nThe course will be delivered by Neil McInroy – a global expert in CWB. \nEDAS courses can also be delivered in-house for organisations and teams\, either online or in person. DESCRIPTION:  \nREGISTER NOW\nRecent events have highlighted both the importance of a strong economy and the fragility of our current economic model to sudden change. \nIn such times\, it is all the more important for economic professionals to be up-to-speed with the latest developments and emerging trends and insights. \nThis course on Introduction to Economic Development is designed as a refresh and for people new to the role in local authorities\, regional and national agencies and other organisations. It will cover key policies and strategies\, and institutional arrangements\, relevant to the Scottish setting. And it will discuss the future direction of travel\, including around the transition to net zero and the drive toward a well-being economy. \nThe course will also provide an accessible introduction into the world of economic development through the lens of the Scottish economy. Key terms and data sources will be covered\, alongside a discussion of Scotland’s economic strengths and weaknesses at both a national and local level. \nWe’ll spend some time talking about ‘hot topics’ of the day. \nThis course will be taken by Dr David Waite\, an expert on regional economic development.
