Join the Board of EDAS – driving Scotland’s foremost economic development association

EDAS, Scotland’s foremost economic development association, is seeking five new Board directors to support the delivery of its current strategy (2024-2027).

This is an exciting and prestigious position that requires interest in and some knowledge of Scotland’s economic development landscape. We are looking for committed people who wish to build on the organisation’s success in developing its membership and strategic partnerships, member offerings and CPD, and policy and practice work programme, currently focused on People, Planet, Places, and Prosperity.

With over 3000 members, for over twenty-five years, EDAS has developed a trusted reputation for delivering:

    · High quality events and spaces for dialogue.

    · Policy briefings, knowledge sharing and practitioner-led community of practice networks.

    · University-level CPD courses and learning.

The Board is seeking five directors to help to maintain the organisation’s track record of sound strategic, operational and financial management.

We are especially interested in practitioners across economic development, including industry, investment, technology, net zero, and entrepreneurship, as well as those from the public sector, academia, and the community/voluntary sector.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive board that reflects the breadth of the communities and sectors we serve. We particularly encourage applications from groups historically underrepresented in charity governance and professional membership bodies.

We believe that diversity of thought, experience, and perspective strengthens governance, enriches strategic discussion, and enhances our ability to support practitioners working in economic development.

If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process or support to apply, please let us know.

    Terms

EDAS is a company limited by guarantee with charitable status.

This is an unremunerated voluntary role. Directors serve a maximum of three terms of four years (subject to re-election every four years).

The time commitment involves Board meetings on a quarterly basis; participating in one sub-group on a quarterly basis*; and attending the Annual General Meeting.

The Board works closely with the EDAS support team’s delivery of EDAS activities and priorities.

*Two sub-groups operate, covering, Finance and Governance, and CPD, Membership, Policy and Practice.

    Application notes

Please send a covering letter with your CV, detailing two referees, to Elaine Bone: [email protected]

Closing Date for applications: Wednesday 29th October, 5pm

Interviews will be scheduled for afternoon Friday 7th November.

The post formally commences, 4th December, with successful applicants being invited to join the Board meeting and away day on this day in Glasgow. The EDAS AGM will take place on 11th December (online).
