Future Leaders Network introduced at Glasgow University Careers Conference
A colleague and I from Scottish Enterprise recently attended Glasgow Universityโs Economics careers conference where we gave a presentation to the final year economics students on EDAS, careers in economic development, and introduced the new โFuture Leaders networkโ. The aim was to promote economic development as a career path as it seems that many people seem to โfallโ into it. We discussed what economic development means, along with some illustrative careers across the different EDAS member organisations, including researchers, innovation specialists, circular economy advisors, and more.
The second part of the conference consisted of a Q&A panel session which was made up of myself and 4 others, representing a mix of private and public sector organisations. Lots of the discussion centred around skills, with constant emphasis from panel members on the importance of soft skills such as communication and teamwork. The session rounded up with a question from the students on top tips for the future with the no.1 tip being to work in a role that you are passionate about โ and, if you’re passionate about helping to transform Scotlandโs economy then a role in economic development could be for you!
The day finished off with an informal networking session where lots of students were keen to ask questions on economic development andย our new โFuture Leaders Networkโ which you can now sign up to receive updates on.
