Zero Waste Scotland appoints new Chair
As Chair of the Zero Waste Scotland Board, Dominic aims to help Scotlandโs circular economy agency accelerate its ambition, leading the nation to use products and resources responsibly, through reduced and smarter consumption.
Dominic brings over three decades of experience spanning public service, energy, social mobility, and retail. His deep understanding of consumers from his time as Director of Communications for Sainsburyโs, Scottish Power, and Marks & Spencer will be an asset to Zero Waste Scotland.
Dominic has Chaired The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) since 2019. RBGE is a key Scottish environmental public body, dedicated to countering the twin existential threats of biodiversity loss and the climate emergency.
With accelerating climate and biodiversity crises, the circular economy is vital to enable smart economic change that supports wellbeing and reaching our net zero targets. Dominicโs experience of sustainability and business innovation mirrors Zero Waste Scotlandโs mission to create an economic system that puts people and planet first.
Dominic said: โIโm delighted to join Zero Waste Scotland as Chair. The role aligns perfectly with my personal values and complements my work with RBGE. Itโs a very exciting opportunity to apply my experience and learn for the future.
โThe transition to public body status, coupled with our new corporate plan, represents a major opportunity. As Chair, I want to be sure that we have the right mix of skills and the resilience to make the most of this, providing strategic leadership to bring our new agenda to life.
โI will work with the team to promote confidence and ambition within Zero Waste Scotland, helping stakeholders see the big picture and working with Government to strengthen the links between Circular Economy thinking and Scotlandโs biodiversity, climate, and economic ambitions.โ
Zero Waste Scotlandโs Chief Executive, Iain Gulland, said: โI am delighted to welcome our new Chair to Zero Waste Scotland.
โIn addition to the important governance role our Board carries out, they are also a dedicated group of advocates for the circular economy, and Dominicโs wealth of experience will strengthen it further, giving us a fresh perspective as we carry on in our mission to create a more circular Scotland.
โI look forward to working with Dominic in his new role to deliver our ambitious corporate strategy and work towards a truly circular economy.โ
